Meet Marissa

Hello! I’m Marissa. It’s nice to meet you. I am a clinical mental health therapist located in Ankeny, Iowa. I received my bachelor’s degree in psychology from Drake University. I enjoyed Drake University so much, that I decided to stay and pursue my Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

I have been working within the mental health community since 2015. In 2015, I started within the juvenile delinquent system and was involved with the treatment of offenders and victims of violence. I have training as a Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) Trainer trained by Girls Educational & Mentoring Services (GEMS) in New York and by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Since that time, I have now pivoted to working and focusing on other areas in the mental health world.

As a clinical mental health therapist, I specialize in working with people facing unique life challenges. Whether you're struggling with the complexities of motherhood, life transitions, navigating the aftermath of trauma, or seeking support for your mental health, I am here to provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to process your emotions and work towards healing.

  • Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD): addressing a condition that causes people to experience recurring, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviors (compulsions). Using Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP), I can help clients decrease these thoughts and feelings.

  • Traumatic Events: Supporting individuals in their journey to overcome the impacts of sexual trauma and abuse.

  • Grief and Loss: Assisting in coping with the profound loss of a loved one, infertility struggles, and various forms of grief.

  • Perinatal Mental Health: Providing support for individuals struggling with pregnancy, postpartum depression, and anxiety, as well as perinatal loss.

  • Religious Trauma: Helping individuals heal from trauma associated with religious beliefs or practices.

  • Depression and Anxiety: Offering treatment for depression, anxiety disorders, and co-occurring conditions

As a therapist, I utilize Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Solution-Focused, and Narrative Theory approaches.

As a compassionate and analytical therapist, I utilize humor and creative techniques to guide you through your therapy journey. Providing a non-judgmental space is of utmost importance to me as we navigate the path of exploration, self-compassion, and growth together. My aim is to create a safe and supportive environment where you can embark on your inner healing journey. Let's work hand in hand to help you lead a more purposeful and balanced life. I eagerly anticipate our meeting and the opportunity to assist you along this path of life's journey.
